It’s raining very strong on a Friday, classes are suspended, no classmates to talk to for 3 days, no lessons to study and books to do advance reading. I feel sorry for the time that I would spend just playing computer games, watch TV or movies but maybe this time is just right to unwind from the stress from school. I remembered a quotation from John Lennon says: “The time you enjoy wasting is not time wasted.” Well, yes, why not spend this long weekend right!
To maximize the time, I’ve decided to watch movies where I could learn something from and maybe do a movie review afterwards. Here are the Top 5 foreign films that I found that would be enjoyable to watch: (Glad that subtitles are already available nowadays! Lol!)
1. Life is Beautiful (1997)
Produced by Miramax production, a winner of 3 academy awards, 1998 best actor and 1998 best foreign film, this film is a truly moving film about the holocaust and how a father cared for his son so much in which he deliberately acted as if he was always happy even though times were so hard in the hands of the Nazis.
2. The Lives of Others (2006)
This movie is about an artist who is bugged by the Police in the post-World War II era in Germany where it was split into East and West. This movie tells us about the importance of taking action.
3. Let the Right One In (2008)
This movie is about a story of a boy who was constantly bullied in school. This was a classic friendship between a human and a vampire which has a valuable lesson: “Do unto others as you don’t want other to do unto you.” If you give kindness, you will also receive kindness.
4. Pans Labyrinth (2004)
This movie is about the fictional and magical story of Ofelia who was believed to be the reincarnation of Princess Moanna, a daughter of the underworld king. This story is about how Moanna found her way back to the underworld. Moral lesson to this story is about the selfless love of Moanna to his brother.
5. Intouchables (2011)
The Intouchables is a great movie which gives 2nd chances to prisoners post detention. Its story gives a valuable moral lesson that you should not judge any person with regards to his criminal records or the likes. The lesson is simple: “Give anyone the benefit of the doubt before anything else.”
